Music Department Aims

The overall aim of the music syllabus is to educate through enjoyment of music as an art form in many different ways while reflecting the aims of the Revised Music Curriculum.

Key Stage 3 Courses


Year 8 and 9 Basic Music Skills Course – Performing/Listening and Inventing – including group/solo and integrated lessons.

Year 10 – pupils develop more advanced skills, including Drum-kit and Creative Music Production using Music Technology, in preparation for further study at GCSE level.


Key Stage 4 Courses

Since 2011 we offer CCEA GCSE MUSIC in collaboration with Ballycastle High School.

Post 16

Post 16 Courses

Beginning September 2015 we offer CCEA AS/A2 MUSIC in collaboration with Ballycastle High School


In addition to taught courses, students are encouraged to take part in the optional areas of extra-curricular music including:

  • Junior/Senior Choir
  • Rock Groups
  • Traditional Group
  • Instrumental Provision provided by NEELB
  • Instrumental Provision provided by private peripatetic tutors
  • Instrumental performance
  • School Musicals
  • Public and School Concerts
