GCSE Construction & The Built Environment (CCEA)
This course is aimed at pupils who enjoy manufacturing and computer work but who are less inclined towards ‘design’ work.
This subject is again split into units;
Unit 1 is Construction for the 21st Century and is examined through a 1hr 30min exam which is done in January of Year 12. In this unit, pupils will learn about; the built environment; employment in the construction industry; economic resource considerations; health and safety; construction technology; and sustainable development. This unit is worth 40% of the final mark for this course.
Unit 2 is the Construction Craft Project in which pupils manufacture a product from plans which have been provided by CCEA. The emphasis in this unit is on accuracy and quality of manufacture and finish and all pupils complete the same task. A short project portfolio is also completed to accompany the final manufactured product. This unit is worth 30% of the final mark for this course
Unit 3 is Computer Aided Design in Construction. In this unit, pupils complete a series of CAD drawings of a building which has been specified by CCEA. Usually there is a small design element to unit where pupils are expected to add certain details such as an extension, kitchen layout or upstairs plan to accompany the original design. This unit is worth 30% of the final mark for this course.
